In my childhood of my father village Megyaszó we used to have favourite pass timing, after a big summer - time rain, inside the rain-wash and watercourse we searched, and looked, what the water brought for us. We always found stones with funny colours and others, which gave big sparks beating it with steel. Together with my friends many times took visit well known Hungarian stone hunting sites, but the best experience remain the picnic only. Every spring there is a Mineral Sale at University of Miskolc, I always bought some minerals, and mainly the precious opals from Australian and Ethiop were well - pleasing to me. The precious opal always is unique and beautiful, but sensitive its colour depends of its inner water contains, it has a great tendency to break and crack. Cutting and polishing of opal necessary great attention. That was a great surprise to me, when I recognized, that cutting and polishing of opal more expensive than the stone itself. Mainly thought-provoking if the stone comes from own tired, lingering site stone hunting. In the year of 2008, one master of gem cutting told me, "do it yourself if really your job is precision mechanical, will not cause problem". But the machines are expensive and to bay them only from abroad. I have decided to do this. Didn't find domestic literature, I have found the principals of polishing at the Internet, and later used them for own circumstances. Working prototype model for the reason of hobby is good enough. During the application day by day I can modify them for better function. In construction of machines and accessories the fundamental principle was to use materials and parts which are available to bay at local markets in very cheap for HUF. The fabrication of machines must be proper for the function. After to develop and get into practice the technology of cutting and polishing. In my workshop the working plane not horizontal but vertical; my machines are not the same like the classical factory models. Those are individuals, cheap and know the physic. The houses of electric motors had to modify, with built in additional air cooling for coils. During the polishing process the surface of crystal must be provide cooling water continuously. This water flow collects and washes down the small pieces from the gem, that's why didn't accumulated dust which is dangerous for breathing in. For safety reason against indirect contact a protective electric network with RCD (Residual Current Device) had to be built because of water. As for me the polishing technology of smallish cabochon/flat form (20x15x5)mm I am skilful enough, the precious opal pendant of my elder daughter necklace I did myself. Not long time ago I bought an old universal tool grinder, and its modification in progress for faceting. As first experiment I cut an emerald shape for one of my friend from his favourite beer bottle. The estimate of this hobby is smaller, than my line-fishing was years ago. Today the possibility is given to show a new polished cabochon one of my friends, but my line-fishing wasn't so successful like this.
